CONSERVATIVE PARTY ENDORSES MAYOR BROWN FOR RE-ELECTION

Key Endorsement Repeats Mayor’s 2005 Support from Conservative Party

BUFFALO – The Erie County Conservative Party last night endorsed Mayor Byron W. Brown for re-election as Mayor of Buffalo over his Democratic primary opponent, who had also sought their endorsement. As in 2005 when they endorsed Mayor Brown in his successful, historic bid to become Buffalo’s 58th Mayor, the Conservative Party made it clear to all candidates seeking their endorsement that they were looking for a platform that was fiscally responsible and achievable.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Erie County Conservative Party, who gave me their very important support in 2005, when I sought my first term as Mayor of Buffalo,” said Mayor Brown. “Since taking office in 2006, I am proud of my administration’s accomplishments, including stabilizing the city’s finances through prudent fiscal budgeting practices, achieving record-setting budget surpluses, cutting taxes, reducing crime and improved accountability and efficiency in city government through my CitiStat Buffalo initiative, which has served as a model management and accountability tool for municipalities across the nation. But more work remains to be done and I thank the Erie County Conservative Party for their support as I seek a second term as Mayor of Buffalo.”

Under Mayor Brown, the city has reduced the residential and commercial property tax for four consecutive years (12.5% for residential and 14.9% for commercial), created 10,000 summer and winter jobs for city youth, reduced crime by 7% and improved Buffalo’s finances, gaining three consecutive bond upgrades from Wall Street.

“In 2005, our screening committee was impressed with Mayor Brown’s plans to stabilize Buffalo’s finances, reduce crime, ensure greater accountability and efficiency in delivering city services,” said Ralph Lorigo, Chairman of the Erie County Conservative Party. “Four years later, Mayor Brown has delivered on those plans, creating a solid foundation for moving Buffalo forward and building upon the opportunities that will make the city stronger and safer. The Erie County Conservative Party believes very strongly that Mayor Brown deserves another term as Mayor of Buffalo.”

There are 1,245 registered Conservative Party members in the City of Buffalo; however, this line typically secures several thousand votes, providing their candidate with at least five percent of the overall vote.
