Brown today officially opened his re-election campaign headquarters at 20 Court Street, welcoming over 300 volunteers and supporters to the same location that housed the Mayor’s first, successful mayoral campaign in 2005. The Mayor was joined by his wife Michelle, their son Byron and several public officials including: Congressman Brian Higgins, New York State Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples and Erie County Legislators Barbara Miller-Williams and Betty Jean Grant. “In 2005 we came together to fight for hope and opportunity for the residents of Buffalo,” said Mayor Brown. “Thanks to your dedication and hard work, we succeeded in communicating our message of positive change for all Buffalonians. Now, four years later, we’re back together and I know willing to work just as hard to highlight the great progress we’ve made during our first term in office.” Mayor Brown was introduced by Congressman Higgins who has collaborated closely with Mayor Brown and his administration on a wide range of issues and projects. “Make no mistake, Mayor Brown works tirelessly to achieve the goals he’s laid out for his administration and the residents of Buffalo,” said Congressman Higgins. “He is my colleague and my friend. We share a common vision for the continued revitalization of the city’s waterfront, the implementation of programs that have and will continue to improve our quality of life, and making key policy decisions like lowering property taxes, which the Mayor has done every year for the past four years for residential and commercial properties in Buffalo.” Mayor Brown highlighted his administration’s adherence to the three guiding principles that the Mayor established when he took office: ensuring accountability in city government, improving city residents’ quality of life and strengthening the city’s economy. ‘Our CitiStat Buffalo initiative is the only government accountability effort in the country where city department heads and staff present regular reports on their departmental operations, which are broadcast for the public unedited on television,” said Mayor Brown. “I’m proud of the fact that the men and women of the Buffalo Police Department have achieved great success in lowering crime citywide – from 2006 through 2008 homicides were reduced by 50% and overall crime was reduced by 6%. And we succeeded in stabilizing the city’s finances by creating the largest financial surplus in the city’s history, creating a $32 million ‘rainy day’ fund and receiving three consecutive bond upgrades from Wall Street, while lowering both commercial and residential property taxes every I’ve been in office.” Mayor Brown is the 58th Mayor of the City of Buffalo. |
