The Lead-Safe…For Kids’ Sake program recognizes communities that propose or demonstrate excellence in implementing effective solutions to make their communities lead-safe. Director of Citizen Services, Oswaldo Mestre, traveled to Oklahoma City, OK last week to receive the award. Mayor Brown stated, “Buffalo is pleased to stand with the U.S. Conference of Mayors and DuPont in an effort to make our city lead-safe. This grant is another example of the positive results that come from public-private partnerships. We salute DuPont for its leadership with respect to the lead-safety issue and are glad they chose to partner with Buffalo.” Mayor Brown will use the $55,000 grant award to collaborate with the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, the County of Erie and several faith-based organizations to create the “Wipe Out Lead” campaign. This campaign will leverage an additional $500,000 in financial investments and will mobilize hundreds of volunteers to make Buffalo lead-safe. DuPont and the Cities United for Science Progress (CUSP) partnership visit cities across the country to assist mayors in creating healthier, safer and economically vibrant cities through science-based solutions. The partnership has awarded member cities of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) nearly $5 million since 2002, in order to help make America’s cities lead-safe. The cities that are rewarded embody the most excellent and innovative ideas that will help lead-safety become a priority in the United States. “We at DuPont are honored to present the Lead-Safe…For Kids’ Sake Grant Program,” remarked Mary Kate Campbell, DuPont’s Public Affairs Manager. “These Award-winning cities exemplify the type of innovative thinking that is necessary to make our cities lead-safe and to ensure a brighter tomorrow for our children. I also commended Buffalo for their winning proposal.” ### |
